Abstrakt: | The present study is an interpretation of an epithalamion-like fragment included in the poem.
Prince Janusz Wiśniowiecki by S. Twardowski. That fragment may be distinguished for the abundance
of allusions to J. Kochanowski's Threnodies. It refers to Kochanowski's cycle of poems
on many levels, i.e. as regards the phraseology, composition (cf. the construction of the Threnody
19), plot (e.g. family motifs), and also ideology (cf. the motif of man in relation to the
Absolute). The Baroque poet modified the Renaissance standard, making it much more functional
(e.g. the presentation of the characters, enrichment of the epic poem's construction,
deepening of the philosophical content).
Moreover, the localisation of the allusions to The Threnodies in the discussed poem (written
around 1636), is an additional argument for the hypothesis that the four threnodies on the
death of Twardowski's daughter, Marianna, were written in the 1630s. |
