Dom Potockich w Woli Łużańskiej

Abstract

In his paper the author presents the puzzles connected with the earliest period od Waclaw Potocki’s life, and especially with the Potockis’ estate in Wola Luzanska. The results of observations and interviews gained in Wola Luzanska in 1991 during the academic camp were presented. A confrontation of the estate inventory of 1696 with the information gained from the local inhabitants show that that there is no certainty whether the estate, traditionally considered to be the site of the Potocki family, was actually built in the XVIIth century. So far nobody has been tempted to clarify this controversial question which reminds one of the unanswered question of Kochanowski’s house in Czarnolas. An aid could come from the archaeologists. Regardless of the results of their research, however, it should be remembered that the search of truth about Potocki’s family house (seen as the centre of the world and life, of the uniquely domesticated space) allows one to look at the earliest years of Potocki’s life from a different perspective.
