Wino wśród mnichów w arabskim Egipcie

Abstract

The paper examines the Egyptian papyri and ostraca of the monastic origin dated after the Arab conquest and dealing with production and consumption of wine. They are supplemented by the additional evidence taken from literary, epigraphic, and archaeological sources and presented on the background of the earlier monastic traditions. The paper aims to show the widespread use of wine as a mean of payment and exchange, and as an important element of monastic diet, medicine and liturgy.
