Analityzmy werbo-nominalne a młodopolski dekadentyzm : (na przykładzie pola stanów mentalnych)

Abstract

The present article addresses the problem of metaphorical character of verbo-nominal analytical structures in Polish Decadent poetry. The author proves that, contrary to the existing conviction that analytical structures of the mentioned type are unique to the official and journalistic styles, such analytisms also prove to be important text-generating components of poetry. Analytical structures under analysis consist of a verb functioning as the basis for the conceptualization of a given notion and of an abstract noun. Notably, they constitute a substantial group of poetic expressions, the use of which serves the purpose of manifesting various intellectual and emotional states of the lyrical subject, such as thought, oblivion, truth, etc. Among those, particularly prominent is the metaphorization of THOUGHT as BIRD, or as SAILOR, i.e., its spatial- -maritime categorization. The number of similar analytical structures belonging to this semantic field appears to be indicating that both the vertical, and the horizontal perspective - induced by metaphorization of the above type - served the writerly purpose of intensifying the nihilistic sense of hopelessness as one of the dominant features of the poetics of Young Poland.
