Abstract

Władysław Sebyła is creator of a “dark”, orphic movement, man with highly original imagination. Catastrophic motifs come across his expressive yet organized poetry. Visions of the imminent destruction of the world are combined with pessimistic images of the fearful reality. There comes a poet, breaking aestheticism of both Cracow Avant‑garde and Skamander into the realm of ugliness, ahead of turpism poets of the “generation of 1956”. He desacralizes nature in his descriptions of nature’s elements, taking away the beauty of nature belonging to the main themes of Polish poetry and prose since Mickiewicz’s time. Władysław Sebyła was patronized by “the good God of details” – as Rilke said – but a certain fascination with details, so evident in the descriptions of the element of Earth (poem Młyny. Sonata nieludzka), stemmed from gloomy associations, dream visions and some obsessions, often presented in the flash of the sun and lunar light.
