Abstract

The presented issues concern contemporary indications of the process of identity shaping among young Poles. What seems to be an element which, in a way, organizesthe young’s social experience is the borderland they inhabit, in which everyday interactions take place (they are sometimes literal or they can develop on the level of alertness to the autonomous contact with dissimilarity). Human functioning in culturallydifferentiated areas is manifested in various behaviour patterns, which due toindividual needs present the man’s emotional and social attitude to the potentialities noticed in the environment. The authoress makes an attempt at indicating the main signs of these bahaviour patterns (on one hand understood as aiming at uniqueness and separateness, and on the other one – as the readiness to share cultural patterns of behaviour and aiming at life goals common for the group). The analyses refer to Tadeusz Lewowicki’s Theory of Identity Behaviours, which constitutes the theoretical background for the discussed issues and which enhances understanding of economic--social-educational mechanisms that facilitate designing the future by the young.
