„Skrzaty Cieszyńskie”. O teatrze ochotniczym

Abstract

“Cieszyn Dwarfs” is a children puppet theatre, founded by a teacher Jan Cieślar at Primary School No 4 in Cieszyn. This amateur theatre gained large popularity in Cieszyn Silesia and drew attention of the activists of a professional puppet theatre (J.I. Sztaudynger) which was being formed at that time. Inspired by the Puppet Theatre “Baj” in Warsaw, “Cieszyn Dwarfs” de- veloped artistic activity with its own characteristic features. It existed until 1975 and showed al - most 1200 performances. The study does not only present the birth and activity of “Cieszyn Dwarfs” but is also an at - tempt at grounding the theatre in the conjunction of different – pedagogical, social and artistic – influences.
