Abstract

In one of his essays Arthur Miller, a recognized American playwright, observed that in a great diversity of plays two their types may be distinguished: one, which focuses on relationships between people in society, and the other, which concentrates on family relations. The article attempts to discuss three plays of the latter type (Death of a Salesman, All My Sons and The Price), in which family members, engaged in conflicts, facing dilemmas, and struggling to retain respect of other people, reveal their weaknesses and their longings. In all the three plays certain similarities in relations between parents and their children as well as between spouses can be observed.
