The family is considered to be the first and the most important educational environment.
Therefore, care must be taken in order to allow it to function in the best possible way. Unfortunately,
it often happens that there are, sometimes numerous dysfunctions and problems which affects
it. Of course, nobody is perfect, but it is important to see those gaps in the proper functioning and try to properly fill them. However, if the family is not capable to cope alone with difficult situation,
then support should be provided by proper institutions.
One form of support is the family assistant. His task is to support family in fulfilling care and
education functions. He motivates the family to: work on themselves, make changes, and achieve
A random person cannot be the assistant, because he is a person which decides about good of
the child. It may happen, that for the child it will be better to temporary place it in a special center
or facility, then to leave it with family.
In this chapter, I want to characterize the person of the family assistant, determine his field of
actions, discuss tasks he has to fulfill and also briefly refer to the work done by the assistant in reality.
