Abstract

An article presented the main conceptions connected with green areas localization in towns. It described various problems connected with forming of allotment garden functions and social actions taken into Poland and other countries, which purposed for big demand on individually using allotments. Article depicted also the basic rules applied into allotment gardens localization and main factors deciding about its position into urban space. The hypothesis was formed that the allotment gardens takes particular place into urban space, which makes fulfilment of many functions at the same time. It makes possible the diversified and less‑compact settlement system into the towns of Katowice conurbation. For describing the place of their layout into the space, the method of distance profiles in Sosnowiec was applied. The allotment gardens create concentric system about maximum concentration with 10.3% area share in 2–3 km distance from centre (fig. 2). Changes of their share into the distance profiles from centre are referring to towns wave development theory. Into researches of urban space utilisation the allotment gardens can be helpful for identification of town spatial structures
