Abstract

On the one hand, the article is devoted to the attempt of reconstructing the usage and meaning of the category of “young age” and “old age” In reference to intergenerational arguments which, at the beginning of the 1990s were published (above all in “Tygodnik Powszechny”). On the other hand, it makes an attempt to examine what is defined as a geriatric discourse and is connected with a more frequent occurrence of text traces of time flow and fear of coming old age in poems by J. Podsiadło, M. Świetlicki and other authors from the “bruLion” circle. A lyrical character of this poetry is a wanderer constantly moving searching for the place in which he could feel “at home” (searching for Home which, in poems by Podsiadło, is always capitalized). At the same time, such a place is recognized as a type of prison, grave prefiguration, whereas a settled homely lifestyle will unanimously be identified with the experience of coming old age and a foretaste of death. The sign of change of life will also be the motive of fat covering the body of a young poet until recently. The body is still perceived here as an element allowing for giving and receiving pleasure but, at the same time, it more and more often reveals itself as this part of “me” which is more and more difficult to accept and the element of danger which is not fully specified.
