Abstract: | The article includes information about the composing and organizational activity of Józef
Świder. This activity was associated with vocal music. The author made a division of vocal
pieces of religious theme. There were four groups of composition distinguished within these
pieces: pieces with Latin liturgical texts (as a whole or using textual paraphrases); pieces in
Polish language with a non-liturgical text; pieces with texts of Polish religious poetry; religious
songs in foreign languages.
The text also presents vocal and instrumental pieces, which belong to religious music. The
author was influenced by the scope of content, selection of texts and ways of performance.
The results from the classification include information about the most popular types of religious
songs used by Świder, their inspirations, and guidelines of the sonic language. Moreover,
the text also includes many invaluable quotes, which characterize the vocal output of the composer.
A large part of the article is devoted to the analysis of Ewokacja na fortepian i orkiestrą
smyczkową, a piece, which belongs to the secular type of music inspired by fragments of
well-known and popular religious songs of Silesia. The author included a list of melodies, which
were cited by Świder in particular parts of Ewokacja. Methods of their development and correlation
with the rest of material are explained in detail in order to explain the way of their usage by
the composer.
The creative attitude of Józef Świder towards religious themes was determined in the final
part of the article. The author tried to place and evaluate the pieces of this genre against the
background of the entirety of compositional output of the artist. |
