Abstrakt: | Anselm’s study of satisfaction is assessed diversely. The problem often lies in the fact that it is not presented integrally with the entire Anselmian thought. It is important to consider metaphysical foundations in his soteriology, which he developed in his earlier works. Two elements in particular should be taken into account: (1) Anselm’s “metaphysics of obligation” facilitates the understanding of the sin and the need for redemption without referring to legal categories; (2) Anselm’s approach towards the dispute over generalities helps us to grasp his take on substituting. Only after considering those can we see the circumstances in which legal elements were included in the metaphysical construction in question. |
