dc.description.abstract | In accordance with the saussurean principle of arbitrariness of the linguistic sign the word "rana" has manifold senses in the languages of the world. From among numerous examples the author pays special attention to the Romance "rana" ‘frog’ and the Slavonic (in particular Polish) "rana" ‘wound’. The discussion concerns the earliest attestations of the word in Old Polish, modern phrases and collocations, cross‑linguistic literary and cultural associations and homonyms. | pl_PL |
