Abstract

The article is based on quality research findings obtained in the project Doyens of the sociology of work in Poland whose participants were well-known authorities on the sociology of work. The research project was conducted on the basis on the in-depth interviews that were subsequently authorised, which allowed to avoid the anonymisation of the research and provide a basis for popularisation of the sociology of work achievements. Presented analysis refers to only one of the potential ways of analysing obtained research findings shown from the gender perspective. To be more precise, this is an attempt to determine the correlation between the gender and research interests of sociologists participating in the research. The purpose of the article is also to determine if or to what extent opinions obtained in interviews reflect gender-related barriers in professional self-fulfilment. It should be emphasised, however, that the whole research focused on the issues of creating and developing the sociology of work. Adoption of such an approach provided a context for quoting individual biographical narratives which appeared in the in-depth interviews. The biographical narratives excerpted from the research material were analysed in terms of the perceived role of gender in developing academic careers. To sum up, the presented research findings contribute to the discussions within the research literature of the subject and illustrate complexity and multiple aspects of this issue.
