Abstrakt: | It is very diffi cult to carry out an accurate semantic description of a lexical form,
mainly due to polysemy existing in natural languages. Automatic translation, where
the source material is introduced to a computer programme which, without any interefence
on the human part, generates an accurate resultative text in the target language,
is a dream of every linguist working on the formulation of a method, with the
use of which it would be possible to eff ectively describe language.
Th e Object-Oriented Method proposed by W. Banyś is one of lexicographical methods
which attempt to face many problems connected with the description of a language,
in all its subsystems, but in particular, on the semantic level. It off ers an interesting
solution of solving various types of problems that appear while performing
this kind of work.
Th e author presents the most important theoretical aspects of the object-oriented approach:
the format of the description of lexical forms, the notion of the object class as
a central part of the description at hand here, the principle of conceptual hierarchy of
object classes and the semantic heritage system, the application of frames and scripts
and the role of context in automatic translation. Th e empirical part is devoted to the
presentation of a detailed description of a chosen lexical form (décision – decyzja)
from French into Polish on the basis of the adopted approach (OOM). |
