Abstract

In this article the text of a 19th-century novel became a subject of choosing and analyzing the linguistic units naming a man as a representative of community or a group, with his/her typical for consciousness of that time features, qualities and displays. The article clarifies the motives of this kind of research approach. The paper also proposes the rules of description of linguistic mental units allowing to imagine the consciousness stereotypes of that time, as well as the approach to a human being not as a individual but representative of a group. Moreover, they allow to define his/her social role and position, location, manner, features identifying both him and the members of a given community. A short fragment of text chosen for the analysis concerns a complete description of anticipatory anxiety of a peasants’ gmina wating for its owner’s arrival, the structure and behavior of which is similar to excited tempestuous beehive.
