Abstract

The article presents the humanistic aspects of the old and decaying maps which occur in opposition to the modern products of the mass culture. The Polish writer’s works "Mapa" and "Słowacka dwusetka" oscillate around the cartographic representation of space in which the elements such as shape, colour and line are surrendered by the time, simultaneously becoming the reason for reading between the margins. Thanks to that, maps can function as the carriers of the anthropological and essential values, which in the context of geocriticism is giving the maps a great significance.
