Abstract

Naturally occurring social, political and economic changes entail a number of transformations, including those relating to marital and family life. This article attempts to trace the changes that have occurred in family roles performed by women throughout the ages, from a complete closure in the private sphere and performing traditional roles, coherent with the patriarchal nature of the world, in preindustrial societies, through entering the public sphere in the industrial period, to the ability to choose any lifestyle and femininity model today, taking into account the socio‑‑ economic and cultural factors that determine the position and role of gender in society.
