Abstrakt: | The author discusses the relationships between text and discourse while negating the trend where
the two are positioned at opposite ends. In her opinion, there are no grounds for treating text as
an autonomous and static entity and treating discourse as a context-embedded event. The concept
of text developed in the Polish tradition of textology emphasises the role of text interpretation by
the recipient, which determines the structure and sense of the text. At the same time, text is determined
by context. For this reason, the author discards the “text or discourse” relationship in
favour of the one described as “text and discourse”. From a linguistic perspective, discourse just
opens a certain new perspective in text studies, emphasising the role of institutional, ideological,
cultural and interactive factors. |
