Miasto i czarownica : w poszukiwaniu tożsamości miejsca

Abstract

Czeladź, where after many perturbations an aesthetically sophisticated monument representing a woman on a broom stood on 4 September 2016, has joined many Polish and foreign cities in using the image of a witch in their space, also in the symbolic sense of the word. The article contains a basic list of the cities. On the one hand, the Czeladź monument refreshes the memory of its inhabitants, repressed for ethical reasons (shame and guilt), and on the other hand, it functions as an attractive – also for commercial reasons – symbol of the city of Zagłębie, distinguished from its surroundings by over 700 years of history and a special attitude towards it, manifested inter alia through various forms of social activity.
