Abstract

The subject of the article is an attempt to look at the heap as a phenomenon of meanings, readings and interpretations. The Silesian hill is not only a “kupa kamieni pustych i ziem płonnych” [“a pile of empty stones and gritty lands”]. From the poetic representations of the heap, in addition to its conventional meanings, many other values and images can be extracted. The deep excavation of the heap shows it as an autobiographical place, as a home; it allows one to look at its form and shape; it allows one to see it as an object, a thing, a concrete. An important role here is played by poetic imagination as a response to the negative perception of the heap.
