Granice kulturowe i ich przekraczanie w "Opisie podróży do Australii" Seweryna Korzelińskiego

Abstract

The article treats of Opis podróży do Australii i pobytu tamże od r. 1852 do 1856 [The Description of A Journey to Australia and A Sojourn There Between 1852 and 1856] by Seweryn Korzeliński – a 19th century Polish traveler and military man who emigrated to Australia for economic reasons. The author pays attention to the fact that Korzeliński’s work is not only a unique record of a tumultuous period in the Australian history, but also a proof of the writer’s attitude towards the Romantic Tradition, nationalistic problems and expansion of European civilisation which tended to destroy foreign cultures. In the article, the significance of passages which illustrate Korzeliński’s attempts to confront the Romantic Tradition with unromantic reality and to overcome cultural alientation is strongly emphasised.
