Twórczość Zbigniewa Herberta w kontekście kultury Europy Środkowej

Abstract

The article presents Herbert’s work reception in Central European countries: Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia and Hungary. This is described with reference to Central European history and mutual contacts. The article author highlights the importance of German translations of Herbert’s works, their knowledge in the Czech Republic and Slovakia as well as their traditional popularity in Hungary and the increasing one in Slovenia. The conclusions are based on the volume Herbert środkowoeuropejczyk (2011), edited by the article author. It proves that the popularity of Herbert’s poetry in Central European countries stems from its form, which corresponds with cultural and political experiences of readers in this part of Europe.
