Abstract: | The present sketch is an attempt at an interpretation of Ciri, a character from The Witcher Saga by Andrzej Sapkowski. The author points to connections between Donna Haraway’s essay A Cyborg Manifesto and the structure of Sapkowski’s character. Although Ciri is perceived through the prism of a classic representation of female protagonists in the fantasy genre, the author seeks to prove that she represents a different – new – type of a fantasy heroine. The works by Judith Butler provide an important context for this interpretation – her concepts, along with the figures of a cyborg, a virgin and a child are essential in interpreting the character of Ciri – and systematically lead toward the notion of postgenderism. |
