Abstract

For at least a few years, there has been a fairly widespread view that the integration process and the European Union itself are in crisis. The criticism of the European Communities (and later the EU) has been expressed since their inception, but the number and scale of challenges and threats to the further functioning of the EU now seems particularly high. The White Paper on the future of the EU, presented by the European Commission in March 2017, is a certain response of the EU institutions and is intended as a starting point for further discussions on the reforms of the Union. The article presents scenarios of further functioning and reforms of the EU, outlined by the European Commission, and briefly analyses and evaluates them.
