Abstract

The topic of the article concentrates on contrasts connected with the structure and functioning of child lullabies, especially historical influences of a lullaby and form of funeral works (laments, gravestone epitaphs, elegy, carol similar to planctus). The texts representing both groups of texts pointed out common elements that have allowed for Inter-genre interferences (motifs of dreams and death-dream, the presence of a complaint in the structure of works, etc.) for centuries. The analysis of the linguistic material allows for making a conclusion referring to a consolative potential included in a contrastive combination of a lullaby and elements coming from laments (the so called lullament). The very connection, historically proven, continues in the current of contemporary poetic lullabies – the so called black lullabies similar to elegies.
