Abstrakt: | This article presents the Polish Renaissance literature as one of the inventive sources for Józef
Wereszczyński’s writings (1531—1598). Imitating mostly Mikołaj Rej’s Źwierciadło [The Mirror]
(1505—1569), the works by the Benedictine abbot in Sieciechów use excerpts from the texts
published in vernacular language between 1561 and 1590. The items recognised so far include:
Jan Płoczywłos Mrowiński’s Stadło małżeńskie [A Married Couple], chronicles by Marcin Bielski,
Marcin Kromer, Aleksander Gwagnin, and Maciej Stryjkowski, Łukasz Górnicki’s Dworzanin
polski [A Polish Courtier], Facecje polskie [Polish Facetiae], Jakub Wujek’s “greater” postil, Hieronim
Powodowski’s Korab zewnętrznego potopu [A Ship of External Deluge], Jan Kochanowski’s
David’s Psalter (Psałterz Dawidów przekładania Jana Kochanowskiego), Piotr Skarga’s The Lives
of the Saints (Żywoty świętych), and Maciej Stryjkowski’s and Stanisław Orzechowski’s anti-Turkish
works. |
