Abstract

The dissertation is devoted to the last ruler of the Duchy of Opole from the House of Piast - Duke Janusz (Jan) Dobry (1456/1460 - 27 March 1532). His long reign had a considerable impact on the history of the Opole region considering his economically prudent rule and legislative activity. The first chapter concerns the dynastic and territorial divisions of the Duchy of Opole from the times of Mieszko Laskonogi till the mid-15th century. In the second chapter raises a number of issues related to genealogy of Janusz (Jan) Dobry. Prince Janusz became famous for unifying most of the lands comprising the historical Upper Silesia, therefore the third chapter is devoted to that activity. The fourth chapter deals with the Duke's external policy. The fifth chapter concerns the internal policy of the last Piast of Opole. The sixth chapter deals with the history of the Church in the Duchy of Opole during the reign of Janusz (Jan) Dobry. The seventh chapter addresses the political environment of the ruler.
