Abstract: | The book discusses the lots and behavior of the artists associated with the Silesian literary
environment in the 1939-1945 period. In the respect of the specificity of the occupational political
status of Silesia, the situation here was a lot more difficult, and the complications not so typical for
the inhabitants of other districts of Poland. These issues are discussed in the introduction to the
study. The men of letters are portrayed during the September exodus, in concentration camps and
prisons, during secret teaching and conspiracy, and emigration. Separate chapters discuss the
tragedy of incorporation to Vehrmacht and the consequences of occupational behaviors in the
times of the Polish People’s Republic. The second part of the book is devoted to the discussion
about texts that were created in the 1939-1945 period. These are the works of Z. Bednorz,
Z. Kossak, J. Ryszka, W. Szewczyk, and A. Świrszczyńska. The annex includes the so-far
unknown archive documents. |
