Abstract: The present text discusses limerics in six stages, starting from general issues: For a good start. (Rhythm is the poem's soul; and Falsestart, on an unsuccessful paralimerick written on the occasion of Wisława Szymborska being awarded the Nobel Prize; Towards maturity, on author's own limericks that were honoured to be published; Culmination, on longer poems (e.g. a laudation on a shiraz wine strain) in which limericks constitute a stanza, not to mention the endings (A Lament for Agnieszka in the second one). A publication, even in a very limited circulation, addressed at selected readers, means resignation from intimacy, privacy and what is most personal, from closeness concerning knowledge about the thought origins, and what the author really feels. Resignation from this privacy may sometimes be premeditated, and derives from hope for being promoted in the hierarchy of authors. However, this is not certain even among those specially sophisticated authors. Would we publish anything if we did not hope that the texts survive a few moments longer than we?
