Abstract

The paper deais with the question of the virtual and the real reader of the literary text . Referring to the Peircean theory of interpretant and to the Nietzschean concept of the subject, the author claims that: (1) the virtual reader is not an intratextual category, but is placed at the intersection of the text with the evoiving semiotic system; it is therefore an evolutionary category; ( 2 ) reading is not an encounter of two autonomous objects, but of two processes whose contours are blurred and which are involved in complex intertextual relations .
