Interpretant a kategoria odbiorcy

Abstract

The paper approaches the category of addressee from the point of view of C.S. Pierce's triadie sign theory in which the addressee i.e. the interpretant is an integral part both of the sign relation and the semiotic system. The authors show how much an approach to the category of addressee may introduce coherence into the reader-response problematic. They also show how the triadie concept of sign may solve the problem of the logical value of literary statements. Finally, they discuss a problem crucial in the era of mass media, namely that some cultural texts project degenerated models of their addressees and thus of their reception.
