Czy możliwy jest brak dramatu w dramacie o śmierci? ("Kwintet" Andrzeja Stasiuka)

Abstract

A play on words present in the article’s title paves the way for the analysis of the work by A. Stasiuk. As it has been shown, the work is constructed according to all formal schemes of drama as a literary genre. The only innovative character (not very original though) lies in the elements of the television-like quality employed by Stasiuk, e.g. close-ups and scene/frame restriction. However, what is more significant to the analysis is the hidden meaning of the drama. The attitude toward death is the theme in Kwintet. As it comes to the surface, conflicts aroused by different natures of death — the inflicted as well as the observed ones — are at most mentioned by the author himself. Despite the potential implicit at least theoretically in the adopted form (plurality of mediums favors the articulation of complex and difficult things), the form did not contribute to any clear expression of multifaceted issues.
