Abstrakt:  e book Traces… constitutes a proposal of a thematic reading. It comprises eleven discussions on poems by Polish poets of the 20th and 21st centuries linked by a motive of experiencing loneliness, appearing in poetry in very different entanglements, and realized differently, and, each time, inclining to re -asking questions on the relationship between literature and existence. e sense of metaphysical loneliness in the face of space and time hugeness, as well as ontological loneliness, associated with a nontransmission of an individual experience are determined by the leading themes of this volume. Introduction preceding it, reflects on the existence of the experience of loneliness in poetry against a philosophical and cultural background. e specificity of the literature highlights its individual aspects, hidden in a unique style of the poetry in question, in the elements of the poetics, peculiarity of illustration or thematic choices. Lyrical representations of loneliness go in a direction of sensitivity and imagination of the authors in question each time. A poem by Jan Lechoń, devoted to Jan Potocki, encodes poet’s internal fears, his depressive and self -destructive tendencies and also projects his fate in a sense. Poetry by Maria Pawlikowska -Jasnorzewska hides a drama of experiencing body, fear of its imperfection and old age, as well as a record of experiencing femininity which constantly demands a seductive of game of covers. e poetry by these poets becomes a type of a cover of personal suffering not transmi ed in any other way, and, at the same time, searching lyrical means of expressing the truth of individual existence. Experiencing loneliness of an individual in the face of time boundlessness and a empts to cope with human definiteness are defined by an existential horizon of a poetic search by Jarosław Marek Rymkiewicz. Both a classicistic utopia of a cultural existence and an obsessive tracing of mortal and post -mortal adventures of the body are in this poetry a search for the means of familiarizing ultimate loneliness, covered with a noninterpenetrative mystery. Man’s loneliness in the face of others and wit a feeling of his/her own mortality, intensified by sleepless experiences of the night in poems by Stanisław Barańczak, from Chirurgiczna precyzja, are dressed in an artistic form of villanelli trying to combine incomparable arrangements of the literature and existence with each other. Poems by Ryszard Kapuściński, constituting an important margin of his reportage writings, emerges the sense of loneliness from lyrical records of the meeting with the world captured and familiarized when experiencing a journey. e journey, however, teaches us that nothing can be possessed. Giving the activity back to the world, we lose ourselves whereas the transcience of impressions and the sense of the uncertainty of existence combine with a constant experience of loss and go assuredly in a direction of the horizon of death. e sense of ontological loneliness undertakes an intriguing form in looking at the other, being a representative of a totally separate, individual world, closed in a non -transmi able experience. Both a meeting with a mystery of fate of people met in an exotic journey and a glimpse at mysterious representations of the figures in the pictures of painting masters start a lyrical story full of assumptions, approximations and distances which will never go beyond the mystery of the other person. Figures from Edward Hopper’s canvas, referred to in an ecphrastic cycle by Feliks Netz, are almost model figures of loneliness of a non -transmi able existence, yet an intriguing mystery of a different internal world calls for making an a empt to understand and permeate it, trying to, at least to a small extent, overcome this loneliness. Experiencing the literature, both writing and reading, in an existential perspective is always connected with taking a challenge of identity search out of the necessity marked by loneliness. Its traces can be found in unique lyrical worlds. In Aleksander Rybczyński’s poetry, it accompanies his poetic character in his desire of freedom and world possession, his dream of a flight and love, in intensity of experienced moments of happiness and despair, in moving experiences of loss and mourning. In Paweł Sarna’s poems, loneliness of a lyrical character is an extremely important component of his struggles with the world, in a mythic dimension taking on an imaginative form of element cognition and familiarity. is heroic a empt to order the world leads to ge ing to know oneself. Each time, lyrical representations of loneliness co -create an original character of poetic worlds and a code of an individual existence wri en in them. Traces of poems interpreted in this book go in a direction of separate poetic realities, individual imagination and sensitivity, diversified representations of a subject experience of existence. If the form of synthesis, a type of a monograph of poetic loneliness does not evolve from their combination, it is because of the fact that an individual, and, generally speaking, non -transmi able experience is encoded each time in a different way in an individual poetics of the poem.
