Abstract

Opis podróży do Australii i pobytu tamże od r. 1852 do 1856 by Seweryn Korzeliński contains a colourful depiction of life in the gold mines. Although in this male‑dominated community family and marital virtues developed with some difficulties, they also had their special role in community life. The aim of this paper is to analyse selected fragments of Korzeliński’s memoirs which create a peculiar image of a family life in the mining settlements at the beginning of the Australian gold rush.
