Operatory trybu w historii języka polskiego - problemy badawcze

Abstract

The article makes an attempt to characterize units belonging to the class of the operators of the mood in the context of the history of Polish. Its aim is to show the possibilities (and impossibilities) that open for a researcher of Old Polish, tracing the development and changes of the operators of the mood in the history of the language. Firstly, the answer to the question on what the operators of the mood are is given. Here, a distinction into operators and determinants of the mood and confrontation of moods morphologically and semantically understood is important. Secondly, the author looks at a morphological structure of units called the operators of the mood. This way one may not only reach their origin, but also find out more about their nature and day why they perform this not that function in a sentence. Thirdly, basing on the excerpted materials one can try to find out if such units that would be defined as historical operators of the mood, namely those that used to appear in the function defined, but disappeared with time, existed in the past. The article also provides a suggestion to eliminate specific divisions of functional expressions into classes, and concentrate on them as on meta‑textual operators in general.
