dc.description.abstractThe book is interdisciplinary in nature amd deals with the issues connected with the functioning of women in the scientific space. The analysis of the very phenomenon was conducted on the basis of qualitative-quantitative studies which allowed the author to reach an individual way in which women perceive their experiences related to scienc’es participation in the world, as well as its presentation in a wider context. The main reserach questions concern the subjective factors conditioning academic carrers of the women examined, socio-cultural factors determining the chances of participation and and promotion of womwn in the world of science and the shape of the relationship between subjective factors and socio-cultural conditions (in the context of the academic work of the subjects in question). As a result of the analysis of the reserach material the author differentiated six models of femininity realized in the scientific space: an independent and self-reliant femininity — according to one’s own project, a fit and active femininity, a traditional femininity — devoted to others, a determined femininity, a little brave femininity, a harmonious femininity. The very models present what is common in subjects’ biographical experiences and show a multidimension of the construct femininity constitutes. The relationship between subjective factors and socio-cultural conditions for the ways of women’s scientific development was described by means of the models of women’s academic careers: a career by incident (?) or a successful coincidence, a career as a continuation of an intellectual path, a career as compensation, substitute, a career as a condition for fulfilling one’s passion, a career when didactic work occurs and a career as a form of escape from problems. The conclusions drawn from the analysis of the reserach material incline for further reflections and empirical investigations connected with the development of women’s scientific careers and conditions determining the very development.pl_PL
