The subject of the analysis constitutes the efficiency of different texts in
the process of teaching/learning the specialist French language, as well as
an attempt to evaluate the influence of the usage of texts on the level of
perception of specialist vocabulary among the people partaking in the experiment
The following research questions were asked:
To what an extent does the usage of the authentic trade documents help
people learning the trade French language in the acquisition of the specialist
Which competences can be developed as a result of working with the
authentic trade texts?
Does working with the authentic specialist texts improve the level of perception
of the specialist vocabulary?
Do the students working with the authentic specialist texts have fewer
problems with understanding subsequent specialist texts?
What benefits can we get from using the specialist texts in the process
of teaching foreign languages?
Which types of memory are considered to play the most vital role in the
process of perception of the specialiost vocabulary?
Furhter on, the work discussed:
— factors influencing percpetion of the specialist terminology,
— the research scheme,
— the research corpus, involving the authentic texts (documents of the
French companies in the territory of Poland) and excerpts taken from
the coursebooks Le Nouveau French for Business. Le Francais des Affaires
(LE GOFF, 1994), and Faire des Affaires en Français (SANCHEZ
MACAGNO, CORADO, 1997),
— the interpretation of the results.
36 students; 16 2nd year and 20 3rd year students participated in the research
in focus. Proposing different activities, the lecturer asked the participants
to find the specialist terminology in the text. In case their choice of
the word/term is correct, they get 1 point, and when the wrong word is chosen or the specialist word/term is missed out, they lose 1 point. Based on
this classification, it was possible to evaluate if the usage of texts in a given
field improved the level of comprehension of single words and contextualised
The results of the experiment show that the usage of texts had a big influence
on the intensity and duration of memorization of the specialist terminology,
especially in the case of people who had the biggest problems
with finding it in the text, and proper understanding.
