Abstract

The article presents the conditions of the creation of the Internet in Kazakhstan. It describes the social attitude towards this media and its functioning in the Kazakh society. The article also comprises the analysis of the legal documents of Kazakhstan relating to mass media, with a particular consideration of those referring to the Internet. The author of the article characterizes the basic components of the mass media operating in the Kazakh Internet: press agencies, radio and television stations, as well as portals and websites. In the final part of the article, the author presents the analysis of the role of the authority of Kazakhstan concerning the Internet as a mass medium, especially in the context of information security.
