Abstract: Considerations presented in the text are focused on the issues of identity in Polish cinema after 1989, especially since it became part of the Polish Film Institute care. The author analyses the complex issues of the criteria defining the concept of national cinematography and tries to relate them to the situation after 2005. The subjects of analysis, among others, are the quantitative and qualitative effects of the activity of state patron, the presence of domestic films in the domestic and foreign markets and the necessary steps to preserve and strengthen the national identity of Polish cinema in terms of internationalization of the film industry and its globalization.
