Uwolnić Pippi! : twórczość dla dzieci wobec przemian kultury

Abstract

The book by Iwona Gralewicz-Wolny and Beata Mytych-Forajter consists of ten drafts devoted to works within the scope of the literature for children and youth. The subject of analysis contains both text belonging to a strict canon of the literature for children (among others Pippi Longstocking by A. Lindgren, Ann of the Green Gable by L.M. Montgomery, Beautiful Panama Land of my Dreams by Janosch, and The Moomins by T. Jansson), and the latest book from this writing area (e.g. Brygida’s Kitten by J. Rudniańska or Billy is bad by B. Stenberg). The very works were attempted to be read from the perspective of the current cultural discourse. Interpretative references to the theory of gender, queer, animal studies or post-colonialism did not only confirm a meaningful potential for children, but also underlined its unique usefulness when propagating the idea of tolerance and equality lying behind the theories in question. According to the authors, the literature for children, widely known and read, though too often derived away from awareness as infantile or fivolous is also equal. In the meantime, though, interpretations presented in the book derive important and adult problems from the texts for children, such as the relationship between a woman and a man, a contemporary status of a father, a gender identity, attachment to the place one comes from, etc. A common denominator of readings proposed in the book is the category of experience so important for modern humanities. It refers to reader’s individual experiences and thoughts that the authors were trying to consolidate in their drafts, and which to they would like their readers encourage.
