dc.description.abstract | The educational values of music provide ample opportunity for pedagogical activities
aimed at the young person’s harmonious development. People started finally to realise
how great that potential could be, and experimental research has been undertaken with
the purpose of educating active members of the musical audience, who would be creators
and lovers of art. The identification of the nature of young people’s interests in music
made it possible to describe the conditions for the development of such interests and to put
forward a new educational model of music as a school subject. Musical education,
enriched with knowledge about elements of the regional culture, created in young people
a need for active contacts with art and music in their various forms. Such impulses at the
time of adolescence may bear fruit in the later, adult life.
The purpose of the research was, on the one hand, to show the present situation as
regards the musical education of young people, and, on the other hand, to indicate, on the
basis of a diagnosis of the current state of affairs, the possibility of implementing
alternative models of musical education. Such models should shape efficiently young
people’s interests, so that they could, on the basis of the acquired musical information,
and of the learned skills, create in young people a favourable disposition to music and
musical life.
The book is composed of four parts. The first is concerned with the researchers’
theories and positions with regard to various concepts of personality, it also shows the
links between those theories and the psychological and pedagogical strategies shaping
young people’s attitudes towards music in the period of adolescence. The second part
contains a survey of theoretical concepts concerning the role of music in education,
and it presents various educational theories of musical education based on the
assumptions of the integrated musical education.
The third part presents the results of the diagnostic research on the development
of young people's musical interests, and on the influence of the school environment and
other social environments on that development. A natural pedagogical experiment
provided some important information on the way personal abilities help to generate the
favourable disposition towards music in a given population. The fourth part is
a presentation of the author’s own concept of a mode of musical education, described as
’’the model of a general musical and cultural education”. The educational values of music provide ample opportunity for pedagogical activities
