Abstract

Mariusz Sieniewicz’s prose expresses a firm belief in the textual nature of the world and thinking about the world. Moreover, it rebels against great narratives – all narratives which aspire to unify, centralize or impose meanings. The author assumes that multiple narrative corresponds more closely with the diversity of social space and it is this assumption that underlies his writing technique. The article analyses formal and stylistic features, the patchwork structure of the novel and intertextual references which are used to break down the cohesion of the narrative. The mechanisms Sieniewicz uses are to bring the textual world of the novel closer to the chaos which set off the crisis of trust in the metanarrative. Miasto Szklanych Słoni is a novel suffused with irony, contesting the socio-symbolic order but at the same time attempting to deconstruct it. The reality created by the author is a disintegrated, heterogeneous world, turned upside down, governed by the absurd and the chaos.
