Specyfika noweli fantastycznej Stefana Grabińskiego

Abstract

The specificity of “metafantastic literature” / “interior fantastic literature” by Stefan Grabiński (called Polish Poe or Polish Lovecraft) is based on a constant presence in his works of references to the philosophy of Plato, Henri Bergson and William James. Without knowledge of these ideas, the fantasy literature of Stefan Grabiński becomes hermetic and incomprehensible. Moreover, these ideas unite cycles seemingly so different as “the cycle of rail” and “the cycle of fire”. The writer also creates his own mythology related to the rail symbolizing the perpetual motion (the emblematic figure of the Motion Demon) and to the fire (figures of Elemental Spirits, of White Wyrak and Red Magda.).
