Abstract

The author shows ways to tame death proposed by philosophers (Epicurus, the Stoics, Christianity) and bioethicists (patterns of death in Western culture, the conditions of a good death). Trying to understand the phenomenon of death as multiple contexts of meaning can contribute to the reduction of human fear of death and dying provide appropriate care and support.
