| Abstract: | Sex plays a significant role in family life. Recent studies which analysed the classification
of sex and challenged its significance evoked the need to have a closer look at the family -
which is founded on it. This issue is currently an object of numerous studies conducted by
proponents of gender studies, which together establish its specific notion. The dissertation at hand
aimed not only to show a gender vision of family, but also to analyse its merit from the point
of view of Christian personalism. The studies were based on the analytic and synthetic
method and on logical syllogism. Christian personalism is the major premise which served as
a background for analysing the gender concept of family life (the minor premise).
Chapter one of the dissertation is an introduction and aims to show the tenets of the
gender vision of family. It illustrates the social context where this concept is taking shape, i.e.
the context known as postmodernity. Subsequently, the development and characteristics of the
gender thought are discussed. Undoubtedly, the gender vision of family also refers to the
findings which the gender studies researchers target at the currently functioning family.
Therefore, they are presented in this part of the dissertation.
Chapter two aims to present the gender notion of family. It analyses the suggestions of
gender studies researchers as to the relationship which is to be the foundation for the family
and then discusses the issues revolving around parenthood and child upbringing according to
gender studies. Those issues are undoubtedly connected with the topic of professional work.
Therefore, they are also a subject of the analyses at hand.
Chapter three presents the married family relationships from the perspective of
Christian personalism. As those are established by humans, the analysis includes its integral
structure and relationship nature. Then, the chapter shows the hard work which - since the sin
of the first parents - is part and parcel of building interpersonal love and the consequences of
that hard work. The analyses also illustrate the communion character of married family life,
which entails specific requirements as to the spouses and their offspring.
Chapter four analyses the basic tenets of the gender notion of family from the point of
view of Christian personalism. This comparison is based on the category of good -
characteristic for Christian personalism. Firstly, it has been related to the relationships
existing between spouses, which are shown from the perspective of proponents of both
premises. Subsequently, the good, and so responsible, character of parenthood as well as its
assumptions has been described. The said analyses are crowned with a presentation of the
social value of family.
The conducted studies showed that the gender vision of family stays in conflict with
the tenets of Christian personalism and, in turn, it is inadequate for the human being. Attempts
at incorporating it in social life pose threat to the human, the family it creates and the entire
society. Therefore, the analysed vision can be regarded as a form of challenge with which
every contemporary human has to face. |
