Abstract

The purpose of this article is to familiarise its reader with Antique gutter humour. Leaving situational humour aside, this text focuses on the verbal type as this is the humour that has become a part of history of literature. Thanks to it we can read today lavatory jokes of nearly thirty years old Catullus who devoted himself to writing poetry interwoven with erotic and obscene vocabulary, and which has been recently so skilfully translated that it reflects the atmosphere of his works.
