Abstract

The past 25 years after the political transformation account for the need to look retrospectively at social-demographic trans-formations of the area of Silesian Province both in the context of past years, presence and also demographic forecast. It was especially economy that significantly influenced the direction and dynamics of population changes distinguishing local social-demographic structures. Departure from the domination of external migration inflow in formation of regio-nal job market significantly influenced the hitherto trends of regional transformations leading to multi-sided process of town shrinking and facing many towns with the need of searching for new more internal factors of further transfor-mations.
