Cenzura uprzednia w prawodawstwie kościelnym : zarys problematyki

Abstract

The history of the Catholic Church’s censorship reaches the beginnings of Christianity, when some authors send their writings to the Church authorities asking for approval before publication. Initially the institution of censorship was practiced as a custom but with time the Church canonistic developed detailed procedures and norms of evaluation of the texts and approval of printing. Although the law regulations, forms and the intensity of the prior restraint have changed, the institution and the censor’s fi gure still remain. Nowadays the Church authorities still demand that some books should be controlled due to their coherence with the principles of faith and Christian morality before publication.
